Breakfast

Okay people, let’s talk breakfast.

Yes, we’re talking about it again. You love it - admit it.

Breakfast is difficult for us. When we go out for breakfast we’re normally limited to the omelette - nothing on the side. This frustrates me. So I started a quest. A quest for the best GF breakfast at home and away, and I found some jems. Here are some highlights:

  1. Sausage Buddies @ home. So what is a sausage buddy you ask? It’s the greatest little thing that Fiance makes. Take two slices of GF Patisseries sandwich bread, grill some sausage, load the sausage onto a piece of bread, add mozzarella cheese and BBQ sauce, then lightly grill the sandwich. Instant awesomeness if you ask me.
  2. Bob’s Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal. My mom found this little delight in the USA. And trust me people - it is like a warm hug for your stomach. Nothing warms up a cold morning like a bowl of hot cereal sprinkled with raisins and brown sugar. (Bob’s Red Mill products are sold in almost every grocery store. As of yet there has not been any sightings of the hot cereal, so if you see it I BEG YOU to tell me where)
  3. A Tasty Menu does it again with breakfast. Oh ya people - breakfast. REAL breakfast. We’re talking pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict etc. They even take it one more step and offer a kids breakfast menu. Take the whole family and enjoy mornings like you never have before!

If you come across any jems of your own, please share. Breakfast makes my world go ’round.

The Coup

Have you seen heaven?

No.

Too bad. Because I have!

Heaven is a cute, trendy little restaurant on 17th ave.

And the best part about heaven…is that they understand the concept of gluten free and the dangers of cross contamination.

The Coup has a menu packed with delicious gluten free items, a great desert menu that doesn’t limit you to Creme Brule, and a really friendly knowledgeable staff.

The Coup also plays right into the hands of the stifled hippie in all of us. Everything is organic, local and served with a little extra pixie dust for flavour. A great concept, a great delivery, and a great meal.

My favorite menu items are the goat cheese deep, pear and blue cheese salad and ice cream sammy. That being said, there is no single gluten free menu item I don’t love. Even Boyfriend loves the menu. Its one of the few places were we can go to have a nice meal and a nice date night - a place where we know that there will not be an accidental poisoning to ruin the rest of the night.

Small Warning:

The Coup is a small place with limited seating. You will have to wait for a table, but the wait is worth all the skittles in the rainbow. The Coup is also not the best place for children - they actually discourage it. There is no room for the colossal strollers and numerous items necessary to keep children happy. Please don’t take offense to this, they don’t hate kids, they just don’t have the space for them.

So go check it out, love it, tell me about it, and tell others about it. Spread the sunshine folks, spread the sunshine.
